We launched just over 3 months ago. Whether this is your first time here or you have been with us since the beginning, we want to say welcome and thank you for following our journey! We thought it would be nice if we shared how we met and just who we are!
Rechelle and I have been friends for 10 years! We meet at our local community college in North Idaho and instantly became best friends. From there we headed to Southern California to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. We lived in Los Angeles together for a couple of years before we both parted ways to start careers in separate cities. Fast forward a few years later and fate brought us back together in Seattle!
Kahla: A little bit about me! We moved to Seattle over a year ago from Vegas when my husband received a job offer that we could not pass up. It allowed us to be closer to our friends and family in Idaho where we both grew up. I am currently working for the BEST online company in Vegas as a footwear buyer and I travel back and forth once to twice a month to see my work family that I miss dearly. I have been married to my amazing husband for (almost) 4 years this September. When I’m with him I feel energized, confident and loved. I don’t know how I got so lucky but I count my blessings everyday. Traveling is a true passion of mine, I believe the world is such a beautiful place and I want to see it all! So far I have been to: Aruba, South Africa (one of our favorites!), Thailand, and Mexico (Cabo and Tulum) and will be headed to Europe this summer! We both have put traveling as a priority in our relationship at least once a year locally or globally, we feel that disconnecting and seeing the world really helps us grow personally and together.
I have wanted to start a blog for quite some time. I never had the confidence to do it, knowing that with my full time job I would barely be able to maintain putting together content so I put the project off. One day I struck up the conversation with Rechelle and to my surprise she expressed the same interest. I was so elated we could spend more time together working creatively to share our interests with all of you. When I got into blogging I thought it would be a fun hobby to do on the side and while it hasn’t lost the fun it definitely has changed my perspective on all of the boss babes out there that do this! Even with that being said I absolutely love doing this and couldn’t be happier I decided to take the leap.
Rechelle: Hey guys! I am so excited about how much SEA of Sanctuary has grown this past couple of months and can’t thank you enough for being part of our journey. I am currently a nanny for the sweetest family here in Seattle and I honestly love my job. I have been a nanny on and off for several years and it truly is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. After graduating from FIDM I stayed in LA for awhile and worked in retail and personal shopping. I had the opportunity to work with the designer Julia Clancy pulling from her collection for the Oscars and helped style for Paper Mag’s most beautiful people issue. I decided to follow my next dream in Coeur d’ Alene Idaho where I opened a clothing store. I did it alongside a friend of mine and sadly it didn’t last as long as either of us had dreamed it would. I am a huge believer that things happen for a reason and am thankful for my resiliency in hard times. Hard times struck again when I found out that I had breast cancer, and even though I wish others and myself wold never have to experience cancer I can say that I am so thankful that we caught it extremely early and my story was a quick and less painful experience than most.
Moving to Seattle was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have made some amazing friendships and have fallen more in love with my home state. Despite what people say it doesn’t rain all time (although that’s not really what it felt like this year). There is an endless supply of fun and it has made me turn into quite the adventurer. Its even better now that my best friend Kahla lives here and I am so happy we have this amazing new hobby to enjoy together. Besides being a nanny I am also a full time student getting a marketing degree (you can never have too much education, am I right?) Blogging has really allowed me to have the creative outlet I was so desperately missing and it’s probably the best excuse ever to spend even more time with my bestie! The community of bloggers we have in Seattle is an endless supply of talented creative people who all share their platforms with the same passion that we do. I know we feel so lucky to be part of it!
