BEFORE: When we first toured the home I knew instantly that it had so much potential. Little by little we chipped away and updated rooms in our home. We first started with the ceilings, which were popcorn, followed by flooring. We painted nearly every room and are almost finished, but the room I was most excited about updating was the kitchen. Once divided by a wall closing it off from the rest of the home and large in size I knew it had so much potential. I started a Pinterest board and designs swirled in my head.
THE VISION: We met with our contractor Angell Construction, who started the design aspect and helped us narrow down what would fit in our budget. We started to window shop our countertops, cabinets, appliances and all of the details to lock everything in! Once we contacted American Cabinet Suppliers we instantly knew we were in good hands and things really started to take shape. Katie drew up CADs to help me see my Pinterest potential come to real life. She walked us through every aspect of the design from start to finish- including soft drawer closures to having functional cabinets on the back of the island (something we didn’t even think about!). We decided on the Belmont 1600 series in white for the back and side cabinets and soft black called CityScape for the island as a contrast. After walking through the design options we opted to not do cabinet down the sides to keep the kitchen feeling open and went with floating shelves instead to add another texture to the muted kitchen.
THE BIG REVEAL: Two months later, living through all of the chaos and off of microwavable meals our kitchen was complete. Still feels hard to believe and even though some moments were not as glamorous as others I would do it all over again. I love getting up in the morning and having coffee at our coffee bar looking out our front window which was once blocked by a wall. The light shines through and the space just feels at home. I look forward to every meal I get to cook and I’ve taken up baking as if I am Betty Crocker herself. Our storage has doubled with the amount of cabinet space we’ve finally been able to properly store some of our appliances that were once tucked away in boxes.
THE DETAILS: I am OBSESSED with our island. We haven’t picked out our barstools yet, however the contrast color, black on black hardware, wine fridge and waterfall countertop truly make it a centerpiece to our kitchen. One of my favorite aspects is our large pantry with pull out shelves and a ton of storage space (including hiding that pesky microwave!). Our hood vent was the other appliance I wanted to mask as much as possible. We went with the Zephyr Pisa Series (recommended to us by Katie!) that automatically turns on when you pull the vent out. It sits subtly under our two horizontal cabinets which are both stylish and functional. The pull-out trash and recycling next to the dishwasher subbed for our ugly trashcan and paper bag that used to house our trash and recycling prior. These details were designed by Katie from American Cabinet Suppliers who’s expertise went above and beyond our Pinterest vision and created functional details that truly make a difference in how we utilize the space day to day.
The accents we picked were all black to contrast the white cabinets including these modern matte black handles, kitchen sink and faucet all from Wayfair. Their free and fast shipping along with large selection made it an easy choice when it came to nailing down the details of hardware selections for the kitchen.
WHAT’S NEXT: We still need to pick out back splash, pendants and as I mentioned before barstools for the island (inspiration below!). I’m also dying to re-organize and beautify the pantry with containers to organize all of our goodies. I can’t wait to continue to take you on our kitchen journey!
I cannot thank enough our contractors at Angell Construction as well as Katie from American Cabinet Suppliers. They both worked tirelessly in helping create our vision into reality that we get to enjoy for years to come.
